BDO Horses & Beginner Training Guide (2024)

BDO Horse is a mount that can greatly improve travel time. A horse provides not only faster movement, but hours of strategy the more you delve into the Training Life Skill, which involves horse stats, horse level, taming, and breeding.

A horse can even be equipped with battle gear and taken to kill mobs if they have the right skills.

You can take a wimpy tier 6 horse and through determination, time, knowledge, and breeding, produce a Mythical Dream Horse of epic proportions!

Horse Characteristics

• Horse Tier: Tier is the most important stat that determines how strong a horse can be. The top tiers are 9 (Dream) and 10 (Mythical), obtained via a unique training process.
• Horse Level: T1 to T7horses can level up to 30. T8 to T10 horses can level up to 100.
• Horse Skills: horse skills greatly improve movement speed, turn, and enable combat. Specific skills are required to upgrade a T8 to a Dream Horse.
• Horse Items: part of the fun is discovering and making items that help training, like Horse Gear.
• Horse Stats: trainers use horse stats to determine their power.
  • Speed – increase AFK and Sprint running speed
  • Acceleration – improve top speed for Instant Acceleration horse skills
  • Turn – how sharp a horse can turn
  • Brake – Important for stability during Drift + Instant Accel animation cancel. Brake can reduce Drift animation significantly. A horse with Brake at 150.1% makes the sliding from Drift almost non-existent.
  • Health – influences how quickly the horse will die from falling. drowning, and being attacked
  • Stamina – used by horse skills and determines how far a horse can travel before being fed
  • Horse Inventory & Weight – Horses get burdened, if you place too much in their inventory and they go over their LT amount. But if you don’t mind a slowed horse, they can help you transport even very heavy goods.

How to Obtain a Horse

The fastest and cheapest way to obtain a Dream Horse is via a Challenge Reward (Y). Another easy win is the T8 horse from leveling a Season Character to 18. But for those seeking more adventure, you can dive into the Training Life Skill.

• Dream Horse Challenge Reward: Obtian via Challenge Reward (Y) once per family. Vipiko Free Dream Horse
• Traveler’s Horse: borrow a free one time use horse at a <Stable Keeper> in major cities.
• Season Horse:
  • T8 horse with S: Instant Accel, Instant Accel, S: Sideways at 100%.
  • Obtain via the Season Pass by leveling a Season Character to 18.
• Horse Breeding: breed a male and female horse at the <Stable Keeper>. View my Horse Breeding Guide.
• Horse Taming: capture wild horses at special horse locations in the wilderness. View my Horse Taming Guide.
• Horse Market: players can buy and sell horses in a separate Marketplace at the <Stable Keeper>.
• Shakatu Seals:
  • T8 Horse with Sprint, Instant Accel, and Drift at 100%.
  • Obtain 10+ Seals per month via Attendance Reward. View my Shakatu Seals Guide.
• Horse Quest: Follow the main quest line to obtain a Tier 6 horse that already knows Sprint and Instant Accel.
• Horse Rental: you can rent a horse at the <Stable Keeper> for 100k for one week. Not recommended, due to the long term expense.

Dream Horse from Challenge Reward

A free Dream Horse can be obtained once per family by collecting it from the Challenge Rewards (Y).

After collecting Vipiko’s Dreaming Horse from the Challenge Reward, find it in your inventory.

Right click Vipiko’s Dreaming Horse and select the Dream Horse you want, then type the EXACT name shown including parenthesis.

Register your Horse Emblem at a Stable Keeper located in cities.

Which Dream Horse is Best?

If you don’t already have one, Arduanatt is the best choice. There is some game content that requires cliff and building diving and this flying Dream Horse makes you not go splat. 😛

Male Arduanatt is rare in the Horse Marketplace at the time of this writing, but it’s also the cheaper gender to purchase. (Horse gender is only important for the purpose of buying another Dream Horse in order to upgrade a current Dream Horse to Mythical.)

T8 Horse with Courser Skills

“Horse Emblem: Fine Horse Qualification” is a tier 8 horse that is obtained via Season Pass for reaching level 18 on your Season Character.

• Courser Skills that are 100% Learned:
  • Instant Accel
  • S:Instant Accel
  • S:Sideways
• This horse will need to learn the following skills to earn Courser status in order to upgrade it to a Dream Horse:
  • Charge
  • Drift
  • Sprint
  • Sideways
• This horse cannot be registered on the Horse Market, but can be upgraded to a Dream Horse and then sold.

T6 Horse from Main Quest

Before the main Balenos questline has you leave Velia and enter Heidel, speak with Black Spirit (,)

Quest Name: [Horse Emblem] Seal of the Secret Guards

Quest Rewards:

– Horse Emblem: Secret Guard’s Horse
– Shabby Leather Saddle
10 High-Quality Carrot

The horse will already know Sprint and Instant Accel, and both skills will be at 100%.

This quest can be done once per family, after you have completed the main Balenos quest line. (O > Main tab) (Or the beginning part of the Everfrost questline.)

Horses at the Market

To see the Horse Market, visit any <Stable Keeper> and click on “Stable” then “Horse Market”

Here you will find Tier 6 through 9 horses that other players have put up for sale. (Also other mounts like donkey, etc)

Prices of the horses here are automatically determined by the game and based upon the level, tier, skills, and other stats of the horse. View our guide on Horse Valuation.

If you are selling a horse on the Horse Market, there will be a 30% tax. (This can be reduced by your Training Skill.)

Beginner Tip:

Try to find a low level Tier 6 horse. These will be fairly cheap, but still have great potential to learn skills that make them much faster, like Sprint and Instant Accel.

Horse via Breeding

When you have a male and female horse, you can breed them at the <Stable Keeper> to potentially create a new and higher tier horse.

The first step in horse breeding is to check to make sure each horse has a “Breedable” stat of at least 1.

Then you check in a male horse at the stable and click “Register at Breeding”.

Horse via Taming

Horse Taming allows you to capture a tier 6 or 7 horse.

To tame a wild horse you need Capturing Ropes from a <Stable Keeper> and Lumps of Raw Sugar.

First you have to locate a wild horse, then win a series of mini-games.

Tier 8 Female Horse via Shakatu Seal

Cost: 10x Radiant Shakatu Seals

For only 10 Seals, you can purchase a tier 8 female horse that already has some important skills. Sprint, Instant Accel, and Drift will be already learned at 100%. You’ll be that much closer to training a dream horse!

It has the same coat and starting stats as horse 8-2.

Borrow a Traveler’s Horse

Borrow the Traveler’s Horse by talking to a Stable Keeper NPC in major cities.

The Traveler’s Horse is a time-limited horse. You must not have a horse already taken out at the stable.

Traveler’s Horse already has the important skills needed for speed and you don’t need to equip him with gear.

You won’t have to return the horse as it will return by itself to the nearest stable when you dismount.

You can borrow a Traveler’s Horse by talking to the following Stable Keepers:

• Traveler’s Horse has the following skills: Start Accel, Sprint, Drift, Instant Accel (Skill Training 100%)
• Only one Traveler’s Horse can be borrowed and no additional horse can be borrowed while another horse is taken out.
• Traveler’s Horse will return to the nearest Stable after 5 minutes of being dismounted.
• When you interact with a Stable Keeper, there will be an additional button to return the Traveler’s Horse.
• You can also return the Traveler’s Horse via a button in the Mount Information window. (You must have dismounted from the horse.)
• The Traveler’s Horse cannot equip horse gear, but it can still Sprint without a saddle.
• Traveler’s Horse cannot use Stable Recovery / Remote Collection / Horse Market / Imperial Delivery / Sell function (but the Mount Information window can be checked).
• Traveler’s Horse will return to a Stable when clicking on Disconnect, Character Selection, or Change Character.

Horses via Rare Events

Once in a while, players can obtain horses through events for a limited time.

These are very rare.

New players often get a free horse via Attendance Rewards.

Horse Rental

You can rent up to a tier 8 horse at the <Stable Keeper>. (Or you can rent out your own horse.)

For a fee of 100,000 silver you can rent a horse for seven days. The owner of the horse may forcefully retrieve their horse when the rented horse is checked into a stable, or if you are not connected to the game.

You can enjoy the effects of the gear already equipped on the rented horse, but you will not be able to unequip any gear from the rented horse.

I don’t recommend this option, unless you don’t mind the long term cost of rentals.

• Click the “Rent” option after speaking to a <Stable Keeper>.
• Click the “Rental List” option.
